We are hosting a volunteer open house so that potential volunteers can learn more about our program before they decide if they would like to commit. When: September 14th, 6:00-7:00 Where: 9035 S 700 E ste 100 Sandy, UT What: Join us in learning about what it would mean to volunteer for Easter Seals - Goodwill in our Peer Connections program and LEGO club! As a volunteer in the Peer Connections, you will be helping teens and young adults with high functioning autism and other social/communication disorders learn social and work skills. Volunteers will be paired with one student in the program and will support them in their weekly goal(s). Volunteers and their paired students are stationed in the science lab where they are demonstrating experiments or in the engineering lab where they will be teaching guests how to build projects such as paper airplanes or rubber band cars. As a volunteer for the LEGO club, you will be assisting elementary aged children with Autism and other social communication disorders in learning how to communicate effectively with their peers as they complete LEGO-based communication activities. This opportunity is great for individuals who are interested in special education, disabilities, at-risk youth, mentoring, and helping others develop confidence. The minimum age to volunteer is 16.

Easter Seals has an occupational therapy clinic as well as the Peer Connections program. The OT clinic helps children with disabilities. They provide parent education and work with the children in both groups and with individual children. Peer Connections serves students 16-24 who need peers to model appropriate social communication skills in a work setting. We volunteer at places like the Leonardo, Aquarium and Thanksgiving point to provide them opportunities to work on the unwritten rules of work.
Volunteers assist with activities, set up and put down events, clean toys, help with office needs, and supervise children during parent education. Individuals between the ages of 16-24 can participate in the Peer Connection where they mentor an individual with social communication skills in a work setting.
I valued everything and appreciated everything at this main service site. I valued most watching the children learn and grow and get better at the tasks that they are struggling with. It is such a joy to see this. -Haley Brock, Salt Lake City, Utah
