Mentoring youth in the community is a lot of fun and there's so many positive effects that come with it. One of the great things we can do is work with their family and the courts to provide opportunities to them that they'd never have otherwise. It’s pretty amazing to see the changes that happen. Developing self-esteem and confidence, understanding emotions better, improving communication skills and more happen just by spending some time one-on-one with them every week. And sometimes the kids learn something, too! It quickly goes from “volunteer project†to “hanging out with an awesome friend†when they see that you care. There’s nothing else like it.~ Steve D. I chose to be a volunteer because I want to give back what was given to me. Someone believed that I could change my life around, and believed in me. I want to give that back to someone else! ~ McKenzie M. The Village Project is an incredible and important organization dedicated to the welfare of our youth. I am proud and honored to be a new mentor for "The Village Project". I am passionate about the welfare of our youth. These youth deserve the opportunity of a powerful mentoring program of individuals insisting on making a positive impact and a difference in the lives of these young people. My experiences in life as a single mother have given me a true insight into the reality of "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child". "The Village Project" is my dedication and opportunity to positively impact these important lives and give back. ~ Christina K.
