Spectrum Academy is the first charter school in Utah to focus primarily on the unique learning needs of children with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Through small class sizes, individualized instruction and an innovative social skills curriculum, we help students reach their fullest potential academically, socially and emotionally, so they may enjoy productive and successful futures.
Volunteers will tutor the kids in their homework assignments as well as class assignments such as helping them out in gym activities. Volunteers can served as a teacher assistants helping the teachers maintain control of the classrooms by helping the kids focus on their school assignments. They can also participate in a fundraisers to help the school raise money.
I would recommend serving at this site if you love to teach kids with special needs. There are many wonderful opportunities to tutor and help the kids you're working with. My most valuable time I spent volunteering was with the kids sharing their experiences and stories dealing with their own autism The teachers are very wonderful and really care about the kids they teach and will work with you. - Austen Snow, Fruit Heights, Utah
