The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. For more than 100 years the YWCA Utah has been a voice for women, a force for change, and a place for hope in Utah.
Volunteers who undergo an extensive background check, orientation, and 25-hour training education work directly with people who are living in crisis because of domestic violence. Volunteers may also work in the shelter, help at fundraising events, assist in the child care center, help residents shop for clothing in the boutique, or sort donations.
The second day I showed up the kids remembered my name. After that, we played like we had all known each other for years. It was awesome! - Mustafa Hussain, Salt Lake City, Utah
All volunteers for the YWCA must fill out an application and undergo a background check to be considered. Those who wish to work in the shelter or at fundraising events must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers 15 or older may work in the child care center, boutique, or with donations.

Betty's Boutique

14+
Help residents "shop" for clothing and other essentials in Betty's Boutique. Betty’s Boutique volunteers assist residents wishing to shop in the free boutique. They organize donations and re-stock and clean the boutique and storage area. Betty's Boutique is only open when there is a volunteer available.

Organize YWCA Donations!

14+
Assist the In-Kind Donations coordinator with donations. Volunteers will help receive, distribute, sort, and organize clothing, toys, hygiene, and all donations that come to the YWCA.

If you are under 18, you will volunteer with either the boutique or the After School Program at the YWCA – I volunteer with the After School Program. In the After School Program, you help tutor kids at the YWCA and do activities with them. They usually arrive around 3:15 and the program goes until 5:00-ish. During the first part, the kids do homework and you help them with it and tutor them. Later on, the kids may do an activity, have girl scouts, or go outside. I have really enjoyed my experience working with the kids. Before, I was never very good with children, but this has helped me grow and made me better at communicating and dealing with kids. One of the girls in the After School Program runs up to me and hugs me ever time I come, and I think that summarizes the wonderful experience I have had there.
