Days for Girls is a non-profit organization that helps girls stay in school and retain dignity, giving back important days of their lives. Most girls in developing countries miss school during their periods; many eventually drop out. We can do something about that by empowering girls, women, and communities with access to sustainable feminine hygiene, as well as sanitation and health training. VOLUNTEERS CAN SET UP APPOINTMENTS BY EMAIL TO MEET ONE OF US AT THE WORKROOM TO PICK UP DIY MATERIALS TO PROCESS AT HOME. WE'RE NOT HOSTING ANYONE IN PERSON AT OUR WORKROOM. VOLUNTEERS CAN JUST EMAIL US OF THEIR DESIRE TO WORK WITH US AND WE'LL SEND THEM THE APPOINTMENT LINKS.
We make lovely, high-quality feminine hygiene kits. Each kit has 11 components that need to be sewn together, however we have the process broken down into many small steps, so that volunteers can help even without previous sewing skills. We need hands to help launder and prepare fabric, cut out pieces, sew components, iron pieces, assemble kits and many more options.
The easiest way to be involved is to come to the Days for Girls Centerville Workroom and help. We have open volunteer hours on Tuesdays from 10 am-noon and again from 6 pm-9 pm as well as Thursdays from 10 am - noon. Our Workroom is located at 304 S Main Street in Centerville and the door is on the north side of the building, the lower level, labeled suite 300. We are also available to meet small groups at other times when arrangements are made. Some jobs can be done at home if volunteers come in to the center, get trained and check out items to be returned later.
