The Ogden Nature Center is a 152-acre nature preserve and education center. The center provides award-winning nature education programs to over 28,000 annually, both onsite and offsite. Besides providing programs for all ages, visitors also enjoy live animal exhibits which feature birds of prey native to the Great Basin region, but also include snakes, salamanders, tortoises, fish, toads and tarantulas! With a mile and a half of dirt trails, ponds, treehouses, observation towers and low water use demonstration gardens, the Nature Center is a beautiful place to visit. Our mission is to unite people with nature, and nurture appreciation and stewardship of the environment.
Volunteers help with the care of our resident education animals, answer phones, greet visitors, garden, work on the grounds and help keep our green buildings maintained, assist our education staff with teaching environmental education and nature classes, work with kids in summer camps, and help plan and put on events. Volunteers also can get involved by representing the Nature Center at our PR booths at community events, taking photos, and assisting with clerical tasks like data entry. Some volunteers learn to handle our education animals and help with taking them out into the community for presentations on wildlife, conservation, ecology and other topics. Training is provided.
The Ogden Nature Center is a fun place to volunteer at because it's beautiful year round and the people are friendly. -Lorna Gehrig, Ogden, Utah
