We are a group of volunteers from the Utah Valley and Salt Lake Valley areas who pick up and deliver groceries for families and individuals who are unable to shop themselves. We especially seek to help those at risk from or affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to serving those who are able to purchase their groceries, we partner with local food pantries to deliver food boxes to those in need, and also purchase groceries for those we serve when funds are available. What you will do: After signing up on our website and getting trained, you watch/listen for a delivery-request notification on our Slack channel, claim a request that matches your location and schedule, receive details from the service coordinator, pick up and deliver the groceries to the recipient. Additional Information: Volunteers must be 18+ years old, healthy, sanitation conscious, and able to make deliveries in your own vehicle. http://www.utahcrisisfoodresponse.com

At Granite Park, we partner with the University of Utah Reading Clinic to deliver one-on-one tutoring to a number of students each day through the implementation of a structured curriculum. In order to serve more students, we are looking to recruit volunteers who can come on a consistent basis. Essentially, those interested in participating would be trained through our Reading Clinic Coordinator and would then be asked to volunteer twice a week (either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) working with the same students each day to help improve literacy. The clinic happens as a part of afterschool programming, so the time frame would be 3:00-4:30 each day (volunteers could stay later and help until the end of program at 5:30) and will run until the middle of May. Teen Mentors play a unique role in the Circles program by showing up for a child each week. Teen Mentors must attend at least 3 Circles meetings per month. At each meeting, Teen Mentors will spend the night working closely with their Matched Buddy, a child who comes from a family in poverty. Activities might include helping practice communication skills, tutoring, helping a child through difficult situations, and serving as a role model and friend to the child you have been matched with. This is a great opportunity to connect with an individual child and have a positive impact on them, and to support them as their family works toward better stability.

Come play with children! Our Crisis Respite Nursery provides a safe place for children ages newborn to 11 years old. Families use the nursery for a crisis such as a medical emergency, death of a family member, a mental health crisis, or if a child is at risk of experiencing abuse, neglect, or trauma. The nursery is most often used for respite reasons (a break). This includes a parent or guardian needing to attend a therapy appointment, support group, court hearing, doctor appointment, or a job certification class or interview--or just feeling stressed and needing a break. Once the children enter the nursery, we want them to feel safe and simply play and be a kid. As a volunteer, your main responsibility is spending one-on-one time with the children. We expect you to play with them and have fun with them. Volunteers can volunteer during these hours: Mon-Thurs 9 AM - 9 PM, Friday 9 AM - 5 PM, and sometimes on Saturday 4 PM - 8 PM. As a volunteer you are committing to help a minimum of 20 hrs (approx. 8-10 shifts, 2 hours each). Days and times of shifts can be flexible. This minimum requirement can be done within 3-4 months, but we would greatly appreciate volunteers who are able to volunteer longer periods of time (6 months to 1 year or longer). Volunteers attend a 90 minute orientation where a background check will be filled out and mailed to the Dept of Human Services Office of Licencing. You MUST pass a background check in order to volunteer. This can take 3-5 weeks to process. You may volunteer once before the background check clears, but then must wait to schedule additional shifts until you are notified it has cleared. Background checks will cost the volunteer $37, but can be reimbursed after 20 hours of volunteering. If you are 16 or 17 you must attend orientation, but don't need a background check. Our Volunteer Coordinator holds at least one orientation a week. However, please note that Saturday or Sunday orientations are not available. To schedule an orientation, contact our Volunteer Coordinator by e-mail at: volunteer@utahvalleyfamilysupport.org

Youth volunteers conduct court hearings and develop dispositions (sentences) for referred youth. Youth volunteers base dispositions on the three principles of restorative justice: accountability, skill development, and community connection. Rather than punish referred youth, Peer Court’s youth volunteers support referred youth by encouraging them to reach their full academic, social, and creative potential. Outside of the courtroom youth volunteers mentor (one-on-one) referred youth every week- meeting in person or communicating over the phone. By providing weekly support and guidance Peer Court youth volunteers harness the positive aspects of peer pressure to encourage responsibility, personal growth through pro-social skill development, and community connection. Go to www.saltlakepeercourt.org/youthvolunteers for more info and to apply!

Please go our website at www.fridayskids.org to view and sign up for as many days as you would like. Very Important: Please only sign up for the days you can realistically volunteer. Because we schedule one child for each scheduled volunteer, it is very difficult when volunteers cancel last minute. The parents depend on you. Please be considerate to everyone involved at Friday's Kids by only signing up for nights you are confident you can volunteer. ***When signing up to volunteer please note that we have the easiest time filling our volunteer slots in Orem. However, we have a bit harder time finding the volunteers we need in both Salem and Lehi. Please consider driving a few more minutes to help families in these areas receive the respite they need. Also, we have our new location in St. George!
