Volunteers are expected to visit with their assigned "grandparent" for a minimum of 2 hours each month. The volunteer will schedule with their "grandparent" when to come and visit, so the hours are quite flexible. Volunteers can read to, play games with, or reminisce with their assigned "grandparent". There is a lot of room for creativity with how a volunteer chooses to interact with their "grandparent". All Volunteers must fill out a volunteer application with the recreation therapy department at Sunshine Terrace Foundation before they can be assigned a resident to be their "grandparent".

As a volunteer you can help with activities or be a friend. Volunteers do activities such as cultural programs, games, church programs, talent programs, music programs/recitals, dance programs, cards, door decorations, cooking, ethnic/cultural activities. Volunteers younger than 16 years may volunteer as long as a parent accompanies the youth.
I really came to appreciate the older generation. They taught me so much, just by listening to their life history. This site is a great place to meet so many new people and make lasting friendships. The residents will teach you so much by their love for life. - Sophie Rex, Logan, Utah
