The 4-H Mentoring: Youth and Families with Promise Program is a positive youth development program designed to enhance the developmental of youth, ages 10-14. This program is designed to help youth and families with school work, social skills and strengthening family bonds. This program consists of three components: one-to-one mentoring, 4-H activities, and family nights out. Though the organization is based in Logan, there are satellite programs in Utah, Iron, Garfield, and Duchesne counties.
Volunteer mentors provide stability and a caring relationship for assigned youth where they might not otherwise have a caring adult. As a volunteer, you will be asked to make a year commitment to mentor a youth and meet 4 times per month (usually once each week) with the mentored youth. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and have a vehicle or some form of transportation to get to the youth. Volunteers are formally interviewed and are required to complete a background check.
Mentoring taught me how a small influence, like one person being your friend, can dramatically enhance your attitude. Just keeping a positive attitude keeps those around you happy as well. It's important to think about what's best for yourself, but it can be much more fulfilling to find how to best serve another persons needs. - Jory Pepplaar, Glenwood, Utah
