CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING VOLUNTEERS (last updated 9/15/20). Contact Annie to be put on a list for when they can accept volunteers. University Health Care serves people from across the state and throughout the Intermountain West - from burn patients and stroke victims to critically ill newborns, organ transplant recipients, and cancer patients.
Volunteers provide assistance, information, and support for patients, visitors, and staff, in occupational therapy, flower delivery, the emergency room, and the surgical waiting room, to name a few examples. Volunteers may answer phone calls, communicate between surgeons and families, track updates on patients, and make occasional rounds. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to work in the surgical waiting room and will work closely with the nurse liaison on duty. Volunteers must adhere to a 100 hour minimum commitment, pass a background check, submit immunization records, and complete hospital training.
As a volunteer I realized that the patien'ts family often need attention from staff and volunteers because they are so concerned about their loved ones. I am glad I could provide that attention. My experience let me view health care from all sides and I would encourage other students to volunteer here. - Megan Hall, Salt Lake City, Utah
