Utah Youth Village is looking for volunteers to mentor youth in the Salt Lake City area. Each volunteer commits to meet with their assigned youth for at least one hour each week for six months, although you can mentor longer. As a mentor, you will help empower youth in the community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. This is a fun and meaningful way to gain experience and service hours. It also looks great on resumes!
You will be provided with orientation training, in-service training, and ongoing training and support. Volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check, paid by Utah Youth Village. Mentors will be required to attend an 8 hour pre-service training and a monthly meeting with Anilu Gamez, the Mentor Supervisor. Utah Youth Village will provide paid mileage and a spending allowance to be used during activities with the youth.
Utah Youth Village's Mentoring Program is designed to extend the services provided through our Families First program. Families First is Utah's premier intensive in-home intervention designed to teach parents skills to change the unwanted behaviors of their children, and to improve family functioning. All of these families have the common desire to change behaviors, learn new ways of interacting, and create more peace and harmony in their homes. Once the youth has completed the Families First program successfully, the mentor will continue with the youth to provide additional support and guidance. You'll be helping set goals and follow-through with the skills they've been taught.
