The Natural History Museum of Utah illuminates the natural world and the place of humans within it. We are the state museum of natural history, with 9 permanent exhibition galleries and over 1.6 million objects housed in our collections. We attract and serve a broad and diverse audience, including 45,000 elementary aged children each year, and we strive to foster in our guests an appreciation for science and exploration, and a love of Utah’s natural history.
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities for high school students, college students, and adults. Volunteers will play a part in igniting a life-long passion for science in museum guests. You may interact with guests as they explore our exhibits, engage campers in their exploration of the natural world, and share your passion for science and history with those eager to learn. We have youth volunteer opportunities with our Gallery Programs team during the year, with summer camps, and for special events throughout the year.
“This program really helped me grow in a fun and educational way. I wish I could've spent more hours there.” – Erandi Alvarez
Volunteers must pay a $25 processing fee*, which includes a t-shirt, nametag, and training at the museum. Volunteers must complete orientation and training prior to starting a volunteer position. Volunteers must commit to fulfill position requirements. Requirements vary by position; for example, 3 hours a week in Gallery Programs, or 3 full weeks of the summer for Summer Camp. Applications can be submitted on our website at https://nhmu.utah.edu/volunteers. *Accepted applicants with limited financial resources may request a fee waiver.
