ELC's program involves six levels of English ranging from Beginning to Advanced. ELC also offers U.S. Citizenship Preparation, and Workplace Literacy. Students learn at a level-appropriate pace and are given lots of opportunities to practice their reading, writing, grammar, and even conversation. Students also learn valuable life skills in an English-speaking community, such as banking, shopping, finding jobs and using healthcare.
ELC students learn more efficiently and effectively when they receive one-on-one attention and assistance - volunteers help to provide that opportunity to as many students as possible. Volunteers mostly work as student tutors and teacher aides. All volunteers are given training and are directly supervised by an instructor.
I absolutely loved volunteering at the English Language Center because I feel like I am genuinely making a difference in their lives. I have grown to love and respect people of all nationalities. They have taught me so much about sacrifice, trials, gratitude, and the importance of having a good attitude.
